KLM Compensation For Flight Delay and/or Cancellations:

As a traveller, you are entitled to certain compensations when flights are delayed or cancelled:

  • As stipulated by EU Regulation 261/2004, you are entitled to receive up to €600 flight delay compensation regardless of the actual cost of the ticket
  • As long as the flight took place within the last six years, a claim may be made
  • When flights are delayed by three hours or more, or has been outright cancelled, you are entitled to benefits (limited benefits for certain flights delayed by two hours)

  • Call the airline to get a formal reason as to why the flight was delayed
  • Got to the nearest KLM kiosk at the airport and let the representative know you would like your benefits
  • Make sure to keep proof of the delay, such as your airline ticket stub, photos of the Arrival/Departure board, vouchers received for the delay, and receipt of expenses incurred from the delay (taxi travel, hotel room, etc.)

Conditions for Making a KLM Flight Delay Compensation Claim

KLM flight delay compensation is based on the actual distance of the flight, not the price paid for the ticket. By current EU regulations, the flight must depart from the gate within three hours of the scheduled time (limited benefits for flights delayed by two hours).

The money is paid back as follows:

  • €250 for flights up to 1500km
  • €400 for flights ranging from 1501km to 3500km
  • €600 for flights longer than 3500km
